Night Sky

"The stars at night are big and bright ... deep in the heart of Texas..."

Now that the tune is on your mind, when was the last time you took an evening to look at the stars?
It had been a long time for me... so I stepped out the other night, sinking my toes into the cool grass, and just looked up into the night sky, taking in the expanse of the black canvas. It truly was a beautiful night. The stars were absolutely amazing. I sat there captivated by them for several minutes.
As I peered up into the sky, I was reminded of the verse, "He appointeth the number of the stars, he calleth them all by their names." Ps. 147:4 Then I imagined for a moment of how it must have been when God created the heavens... the black canopy covering the heavenlies --- when a word was spoken and, suddenly, one twinkling star appeared, and then another, and then another until they filled up the sky.
Do you know what peace, confidence, and assurance flooded my heart as I stared at God's creation and realized that God knows each of those stars by name? How much more does he care about each of us---His children? Just as He placed the stars in the sky in a specific place, He also placed you and I in our specific places in life. I love that the Lord knows all about us. He does have a plan for our lives---which is for us to glorify Him in all that we do.
Looking into the night sky also gave to me a sense of God's creative power, His great authority... and it reminded me that He REIGNS. You and I do not need to be afraid of all that is going on around us---the economy, wars and rumors of war, sickness, and anything the enemy can find to discourage us. God is over all and He will take care of you and me. Just look at the stars. He knows them intimately. How much more does He know and love you?
Take a few minutes out of your night, throw out a blanket, and spend some time peering up at the stars. I'm sure it will make you love our Father even more---our great, Creator God.
