"The LORD, thy God, in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he joy over thee with singing." Zeph. 3:17
Just passing by your house and wanted to stop in real quick for a cup of coffee and visit.
The nightly ritual began rather simply---swaddle the baby daughter, rock her gently back and forth, and then quietly sing her to sleep. It began with a just a couple of songs, but soon became a medley of four songs repeated over and over---"Jesus Loves Me," "Jesus Loves the Little Children," "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus," and "Trust and Obey." The songs were meant to soothe my daughters' souls (and also to bring about sleep!) But, during those times, I found myself experiencing such joy and delight that the rocking and singing went way past my girls falling to sleep. Dick used to tease me that when the girls would hear those songs in "big church" they would think it was time to go to sleep.
I thought of this memory the other day when discouragement had enveloped me. Ever had one of those days? The Lord sweetly brought to my mind the above verse. I stopped what I was doing, thanked Him for who He is, and as I got ready for sleep, I asked Him to sing a song of encouragement over me. I don't know what is sounded like. It could have been one of those four songs I used to sing to my girls, but---whatever it was---a sense of peace flooded my spirit and I closed my eyes to the knowledge that He was singing over me. Oh, the truth and preciousness of this verse!
What about you? Need the Father to sing over you --- a song of love, deliverance, of peace, protection, of His nearness. Just ask Him, He will do it. That is the preciousness of our Father, He knows what we have need of and He is able to meet that need and shower us with His love and presence.
Oh...and I still love singing those songs over my grandchildren when I get the opportunity!
