Precious and Pleasant Riches

"Through wisdom is an house builded, and by understanding it is established; And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches." Prov. 24:3,4

Moments of uninterrupted conversation ... priceless. Moments of sharing about the Lord ... priceless. Moments of doing this with my daughters ... doubly priceless.
I had several of these moments with my daughter, Amy, a few weeks ago, sitting at her kitchen table before the children were up and active. During one of these conversations, she showed me a picture she had drawn that God had given her of her family. The picture contained a house with numerous symbols spread throughout it---with each symbol representing a member of the family and their individual activities and roles within their home.
Instantly, I had a flashback. I was sitting in my bedroom having a time of reflection on my life, all the changes that had taken place since the loss of Dick, and trying not to feel "sorry for myself." The Lord had directed me to the above verses in Proverbs. As I was meditating on the verses, wondering what were all the "precious and pleasant riches" in my chambers, I heard it. A laugh. A laugh that filled my house and seemed to last for minutes. It was my daughter, Lee. Her laugh was so infectious that it caused me to laugh right along with her, a huge smile spreading across my face. and, then it hit me ... laughter filled my chambers, and, oh yes, love, family, joy, memories, His presence, and so much more.
What a treat to remember that and to see how God had brought to both Amy and me an understanding of His Word and how we could apply it in our lives.
Take a look at the verse again ... now picture your house---both the physical structure and the spiritual world it contains. As you do, take a second to reflect on three different ways through which God builds his house --- wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. Knowledge comes from reading and studying the scripture. Wisdom is putting the scripture or principle into practice and the result is understanding---seeing how God's Word is true and applicable. Now THAT is priceless!
Think for a few minutes what some of your "precious and pleasant riches" are. I wish we could share "our riches" together over a cup of coffee.
