Precious and Pleasant Riches

"Through wisdom is an house builded, and by understanding it is established; And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches." Prov. 24:3,4

Moments of uninterrupted conversation ... priceless. Moments of sharing about the Lord ... priceless. Moments of doing this with my daughters ... doubly priceless.
I had several of these moments with my daughter, Amy, a few weeks ago, sitting at her kitchen table before the children were up and active. During one of these conversations, she showed me a picture she had drawn that God had given her of her family. The picture contained a house with numerous symbols spread throughout it---with each symbol representing a member of the family and their individual activities and roles within their home.
Instantly, I had a flashback. I was sitting in my bedroom having a time of reflection on my life, all the changes that had taken place since the loss of Dick, and trying not to feel "sorry for myself." The Lord had directed me to the above verses in Proverbs. As I was meditating on the verses, wondering what were all the "precious and pleasant riches" in my chambers, I heard it. A laugh. A laugh that filled my house and seemed to last for minutes. It was my daughter, Lee. Her laugh was so infectious that it caused me to laugh right along with her, a huge smile spreading across my face. and, then it hit me ... laughter filled my chambers, and, oh yes, love, family, joy, memories, His presence, and so much more.
What a treat to remember that and to see how God had brought to both Amy and me an understanding of His Word and how we could apply it in our lives.
Take a look at the verse again ... now picture your house---both the physical structure and the spiritual world it contains. As you do, take a second to reflect on three different ways through which God builds his house --- wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. Knowledge comes from reading and studying the scripture. Wisdom is putting the scripture or principle into practice and the result is understanding---seeing how God's Word is true and applicable. Now THAT is priceless!
Think for a few minutes what some of your "precious and pleasant riches" are. I wish we could share "our riches" together over a cup of coffee.

Singing Over You

"The LORD, thy God, in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he joy over thee with singing." Zeph. 3:17

Just passing by your house and wanted to stop in real quick for a cup of coffee and visit.
The nightly ritual began rather simply---swaddle the baby daughter, rock her gently back and forth, and then quietly sing her to sleep. It began with a just a couple of songs, but soon became a medley of four songs repeated over and over---"Jesus Loves Me," "Jesus Loves the Little Children," "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus," and "Trust and Obey." The songs were meant to soothe my daughters' souls (and also to bring about sleep!) But, during those times, I found myself experiencing such joy and delight that the rocking and singing went way past my girls falling to sleep. Dick used to tease me that when the girls would hear those songs in "big church" they would think it was time to go to sleep.
I thought of this memory the other day when discouragement had enveloped me. Ever had one of those days? The Lord sweetly brought to my mind the above verse. I stopped what I was doing, thanked Him for who He is, and as I got ready for sleep, I asked Him to sing a song of encouragement over me. I don't know what is sounded like. It could have been one of those four songs I used to sing to my girls, but---whatever it was---a sense of peace flooded my spirit and I closed my eyes to the knowledge that He was singing over me. Oh, the truth and preciousness of this verse!
What about you? Need the Father to sing over you --- a song of love, deliverance, of peace, protection, of His nearness. Just ask Him, He will do it. That is the preciousness of our Father, He knows what we have need of and He is able to meet that need and shower us with His love and presence.
Oh...and I still love singing those songs over my grandchildren when I get the opportunity!

Night Sky

"The stars at night are big and bright ... deep in the heart of Texas..."

Now that the tune is on your mind, when was the last time you took an evening to look at the stars?
It had been a long time for me... so I stepped out the other night, sinking my toes into the cool grass, and just looked up into the night sky, taking in the expanse of the black canvas. It truly was a beautiful night. The stars were absolutely amazing. I sat there captivated by them for several minutes.
As I peered up into the sky, I was reminded of the verse, "He appointeth the number of the stars, he calleth them all by their names." Ps. 147:4 Then I imagined for a moment of how it must have been when God created the heavens... the black canopy covering the heavenlies --- when a word was spoken and, suddenly, one twinkling star appeared, and then another, and then another until they filled up the sky.
Do you know what peace, confidence, and assurance flooded my heart as I stared at God's creation and realized that God knows each of those stars by name? How much more does he care about each of us---His children? Just as He placed the stars in the sky in a specific place, He also placed you and I in our specific places in life. I love that the Lord knows all about us. He does have a plan for our lives---which is for us to glorify Him in all that we do.
Looking into the night sky also gave to me a sense of God's creative power, His great authority... and it reminded me that He REIGNS. You and I do not need to be afraid of all that is going on around us---the economy, wars and rumors of war, sickness, and anything the enemy can find to discourage us. God is over all and He will take care of you and me. Just look at the stars. He knows them intimately. How much more does He know and love you?
Take a few minutes out of your night, throw out a blanket, and spend some time peering up at the stars. I'm sure it will make you love our Father even more---our great, Creator God.

Even in the Dark

"For thou wilt light my lamp, the LORD, my God, will lighten my darkness."  Ps. 18:28

"It's so dark!  Daddy, I can't see anything!"  She said with a tremble in her voice as her little hand squeezed tighter around her father's.
  "Honey, keep holding my hand."
"But, Daddy, I can't see you."
"Sweet daughter, do you feel my hand around yours?  Do you hear my voice?"
  "Yes."  She whispered.
"Then just keep holding my hand, I won't let go.  You know I am right here.  They will turn the lights back on in just a minute, "  he said with such love in his voice.
That's my memory of me as a young girl when we went deep into Mammoth Cave one summer.  I still can remember the intense darkness of that experience, of clinging to my father for reassurance, and receiving the comfort that only a father can give.
Have you ever felt like you were spiritually "in the dark?"  If we're being honest, I think we all have.  It may have been someone dear to us who was ill, a financial hardship, loss of job, direction in life, or just trying to know what step to take next in our life.  We could see physically with our eyes, but our heart and thoughts were so clouded because of the heaviness of the trial.
It  is in those times when we can not see in front of us, that darkness seems to veil the way, that we keep holding on to the hand of our loving Heavenly Father.  The Psalms say, "...for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand."  We keep trusting Him, listening for His voice, and knowing of His presence is with us at all times.
Visualize the Lord holding your hand ... take a moment and get into the scriptures.  Find a verse that gives you encouragement or direction, claim that verse, and keep your eyes steadfastly on Jesus.  Know the comfort of His presence and realize that God is just as loving and caring when we do not see or feel His love.  He WILL be with you and bring you out of the darkness.  Hallelujah!  God sees great in the darkness!

God's Requirements

Quirks!  oh, do I have some.  Let's see ... I like my coffee to be REALLY hot... I love my little envelopes of money stashed around the house...and I'm very particular about my mailbox.  Ok, so how is my mailbox quirky?  Well, it's not really my mailbox---it's the little "game" I play with myself when I'm checking the mail.  It sounds a little crazy, but I like to think that if I don't go everyday then I will find something special in my mailbox---a note from a friend, some pictures from family, or just some special surprise.  Well, I went to get my mail a couple of weeks ago and to my great surprise a different looking envelope was tucked away in the box.  It was a jury summons.  Oh, man, not really what I wanted, but since it was a "surprise", I tried to play the part of being thrilled.  I read the summons and, much to my amazement, there were several "requirements" that I had to meet before I could serve.  Things like eighteen years of age, resident of this state and of the county in which I live, being of sound mind(questionable), etc.  I quickly determined that I satisfied all the requirements, so I signed it and sent it back.
It was several mornings later during my quiet time that the word "required" kept coming to my mind.  I began to ask, "Lord, what is it that You require of me?"  My searching took me to Deuteronomy 10:12 "And now, Israel, (Ginny) what does the Lord your God require of you but (reverently) to fear the Lord your God, (that is) to walk in all His way, and to love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your (mind and) heart and with your entire being."  Pretty straightforward.  I began to think about the verses and what each verb meant and whether I was really meeting God's requirement of me.
So, I examined His words further.  Let's look at them together.
FEAR----to fear the Lord means reverential trust including hatred of evil.  I continue to learn how to trust the Lord in every area of my life.  We have to trust completely, that He will do what He says, or we really don't trust at all.  From Matthew Henry's Commentary "We must adore his majesty, acknowledge his authority, stand in awe of his power, and dread his wrath."  The Proverbs say:  "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom."
WALK----to walk in all His ways means to obey His commandments.  To be able to do that we have to be in the Word daily so that we know how to respond, how to live, act, and know that His commandments are for our good.
LOVE----It is because He first loved us that we can love Him.  It is a choice, a commitment.  Matthew Henry wrote about the five loves we need to have for God---(i) a sincere love, one that not only is expressed in word and deed, but deep within our hearts, one that solaces us;  (ii) a strong love---one of great ardour and ferverent affection: (iii) a superlative love---love God above any creature whatsoever; (iv) an intelligent love---we must know Him, and (v) an entire love---requiring that the whole stream of our affections run toward Him.
SERVE----do what God asks us to, cheerfully and with goodwill and a servant's heart.
You notice that all of these are to be done with ALL of our mind, will, and emotions.
This is my challenge and encouragement to you...that you would ask God to show you how you can fulfill His requirements above and beyond the way you ever have before.  It can only bring peace, blessings, a closer fellowship with Him and a sweeter love.
Well, about my quirks, I guess that is what makes me...well me.  I'm glad the Lord loves me inspite of them and works with me on them.  Always look forward to our next visit!

Hear the Rain?

"Now unto him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,"  Ephesians 3:20

  Whoo-hoo!  I see rain!
As I was driving to my daughter's volleyball game the other day, the rain slowly began to fall,  It quickly picked up speed and soon the rain was coming down so hard that visibility was severely limited and the speed of the cars was slowed to a crawl.  A few miles down the highway, I looked out my window and staring back at me was a double rainbow whose colors were so brilliant and so defined it nearly took my breath away.  I could not help but think of our last visit together sharing about praying until we hear the sound of mighty rain.  Seeing the rainbow, I was once again reminded of God's faithfulness.
So I have to ask --- "Did anyone hear the mighty rain of God in answer to a prayer or prayers?"
I want to share that I felt God's mighty rain and received word from another who did also.  She shared how God provided for her family, as they are transitioning to a new job.  We all know how a new job can bring about new challenges and struggles.  She shared how God supplied three different times this last month financially, in three varying amounts, from different people---all to meet their needs.  It was so encouraging hearing the thankfulness in her voice, just praising God for His faithfulness.  I was also blessed as she shared truths they have been reminded of about God, His character, and how He knows all about us and is involved in the details of our lives.
After we ended our conversation, I found myself thanking and praising God for what He had done for this family.  As I stood in my kitchen I lifted my hands as high as I could reach, singing praises to God.  Those initial moments quickly turned into an extended time of worship---of being so aware of God's sweet presence in my spirit.  God loves to show His love and faithfulness to us.
Allow God to meet your needs.  Tell Him what you have need of and see how He wants to answer.  Don't miss a blessing from God by hurrying to meet the need yourself.  Don't miss an opportunity to depend on God more than you have before.  He will not fail you!
Know that God has unlimited resources.  I love that we don't have to figure out how He will do it.  Just believe He will, by whatever means He chooses, and be ready to thank Him for His answers.  Show a heart of praise and thanksgiving to God for all that He does for you.
Keep on praying!  Keep on believing!   Keep on praising!  "Praise the LORD; for the LORD is good.  Sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant."  Ps.  135:3

Cry of the Heart

"... but have poured out my soul before the LORD."  1 Sam. 1"15b

You know you can always stop by and we can share a cup of coffee together and visit!
The words were always the same and oh, how they stung.  It was like salt being rubbed in an open wound.  She tried to push them from her mind but they kept playing over and over again, "Hannah bears no children...Hannah's womb is closed."
All Hannah's wants and desires had been taken over by sorrow; yet, the deepest desire of her heart still remained...if only...
Hannah found herself pouring out her heart to the Lord, just as water is poured out over the ground.  All that had been pent up inside her was coming out, as she wept tears of sorrow and spoke words that only the Lord could hear, asking Him to do this one thing that only He could do...give her a son.
Oh, I imagine we have all had a time in our lives that our needs or desires were so great that all we could do was "pour out our heart to the Lord."  Thomas Le Blanc says, "Pour it out as water.  Not as milk, whose color remains,.  Not as wine, whose savour remains.  Not as honey, whose taste remains.  But as water, of which, when it is poured out, nothing remains."  When we get to that place with the Father, we find ourselves being totally open and honest with Him about the needs in our life.  We allow all hindrances to be set aside and turn our heart upside down, pouring out to Him our innermost thoughts, needs, desires, expectations, emotions, and sin.  At this point, we are not holding on to anything, but giving God all that we cannot control, trusting Him to do a good work in our lives.  It is at this place that we realize that He is sovereign, in control, and there is nothing beyond His grasp.
When we come to that point in our lives, there is such freedom at the throne of grace sharing not only with our Father, but also with our Friend.  It is then that we find ourselves becoming like Hannah, who---when she finally walked away---"was sad no more."
I love the verse in Ps. 62:8 "Trust in him at all times, ye people; pour out your heart before Him.  God is a refuge for us.  Selah."  Oh, that we might experience the freedom that comes when we pour out our hearts and trust in Him as Hannah did ... because, if we do, the precious pause of worshipping and waiting on Him becomes evident in our lives.  He's waiting on you and the cry of your heart.
  Oh, how He loves you.

Listen for the Mighty Rain

"The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available (dynamic in its working)."  James 5:16

"We must keep on praying and waiting upon the Lord until the sound of mighty rain is heard."  Streams in the Desert

Just wanted to drop by, visit a minute and encourage you.
As I sat and watched the dark clouds approach, the first big drops hit the hot sidewalk with a loud splatter and drops of all sizes soon joined them in a huge downpour.  It was the beginning of a mighty rain.  As I watched the rain come down, I prayed, "Lord, how I want Your mighty rain to come in answer to my prayers."  I thought about what I had read about Elijah in the last few weeks---how there had been no rain for 3 1/2 years and after that space of time he then prayed for rain.  1 Kings 18:41-46 tells that Elijah prayed seven times for rain.  Let's take a look at the story and see what it can teach us about prayer.
The Bible tells us that Elijah bowed himself prostrate to the ground and prayed for God to send the rain.  He then asked his servant to check and see if he saw anything on the horizon.  The servant answered that he had seen "Nothing."  Once again Elijah prayed.  "See anything, my servant?"  The answer again was "Nothing."  This went on seven times.  Prayer after prayer after prayer, but still nothing.  Finally, the answer came back;  "I see a small cloud the size of a man's hand in the far distance."  Elijah's response was "run!"  Can you imagine the way Elijah grabbed up his robe and took off down the mountain?  I'm sure he was thanking God and praising Him for His answer.
I love Elijah's persistence in prayer.  I must confess that I sometimes give up if God has not answered to my liking after a few times on a specific request.  Elijah teaches us to be encouraged to keep on praying even when we see no fruit.  What about you?  Is there something you are praying about but have not received an answer yet?  Don't give up.  Keep praying.
Let's summarize what can we learn from Elijah?
1.  Be specific in our requests to God.
2.  Be persistent in our praying of requests to God.
3.  Pray according to God's will and His best in the situation.  It may require God re-directing our prayer to line up with His will
4.  Keep on praying, but understand that things happen in God's timing, not ours.  Here's a real life example:  I prayed for the salvation of my husband for over 6 years.  During that time, I would tell God that I wasn't going to pray for him anymore because I didn't see anything happening or see God working in his life.  God is so kind.  He would sweetly encourage me to pray one more day, reminding me that someone prayed one more day for me to come to know God.  And yes, God answered my prayer.  Talk about a mighty rain!
I have several requests on my list that I am praying about.  I'm sure you do too.  Let's pray with the expectation of listening and looking for the mighty rain, His glorious answers to our prayers.  God is faithful!
Don't give up, sweet friend.  Keep believing and praying.

Jesus, Our Hope

"May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace in your faith, that by power of the Holy Spirit, your whole life and outlook may be radiant with hope."  Rom. 15:13 (Phillips)

Wow!  A cup of coffee tastes even better when you are visiting with a friend.  Let's do both!
She sighed as she slowly closed the lid and taped up the last box.  It seemed to have finality about it, the ending of a season in her life.  But, the whole process felt like even more than that ... as if she were closing the top to the hope chest of her mind.  Both were filled with dreams, memories, and hopes she had desired in her life ... and both seemed to be coming to an end.  "This is silly," she thought to herself, "This is just one event in my life, but I am acting as if it will change everything."
She knew this was the time to pray; yet her heart was so heavy.  "Lord, You have given me so many of my heart's desires, why do I now feel so hopeless now?  Help me to understand through Your Word and see what it is You are teaching me."
Just as she breathed her prayer, her mind was quickly reminded of some verses in Jeremiah 17: 7, 8 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD and whose hope the LORD is.  For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit."
And, with that, she took hope in the Lord.
I love these verses of encouragement.  What a wonderful visual, and promise to stand on!  The first part of the verse is the most crucial in our relationship with the Lord ... TRUST.  Trust in the Old Testament is the same word for believe and faith in the New Testament.  For us to trust means to believe God and His Word.  Trust literally means to lean on, to take refuge, to roll on, and to wait for.  Always remember that trusting God is a process that we journey through as we continually find our hope is in Him.  If our hope is in anything else ... our spouse, family, job, career, finances, etc. we will inevitably be disappointed.
We have all had our hopes, dashed at one time or another, leaving us feeling hurt, disappointed, and empty, yet if we trust in the Lord, He will fill the hurt with Himself.
The last part of that verse says the blessed are those "... whose hope the LORD is."  The word HOPE does not mean something we wish for, but conveys a truth, an assured fact---the fact of the resurrected Christ and what a difference He makes in our lives.
As we grow in Christ and in the Word, we will be like a tree planted on fertile ground, with our root system receiving nourishment directly from Him.  In that growth, we find that we are established and found in Him.  Have you ever pictured yourself in that way?  I see us as starting out as that little sapling being planted in most precious soil by God.  Then, over the years, He nurtures us and tends to us---growing us until we become a most beautiful oak tree with boughs that are full of green leaves able to withstand the heat and the drought when it comes, and being a haven for others to come and find rest  Oh how He will keep us, even to the joy of still bearing fruit in our lives at difficult times.  Oh, doesn't that encourage you!
Sweet friend, set your eyes and heart on Jesus, our hope.  Distractions and circumstances will come in your life, but He is so faithful to see us through and give us hope for each day.  I know, because He has done that for me and I depend on Him to continue to help me each day!
I am so glad we had time to visit extra today.  I truly look forward to our times together.  I proclaim with you, "Jesus is our hope!"

Yes Lord, I'm Listening

"And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel.  Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth."  1 Samuel 3:10

I'm back!  Let's have our cup of coffee and visit.
As the night shadows began to slip over the temple, Samuel hurriedly tried to finish his task. Samuel's priest, Eli, had already retired for the night and Samuel was eager to follow in his lead and head off to bed.  While performing his final task of the night, Samuel began to think of his mother and the coat she had made for him.  He knew the love that had been sewn into each and every seam.  It made him smile to remember when his parents had come to visit and given him the coat.  Each time he put it on he was thankful for their love and his special memories of them.
But now he must turn back his thoughts to listening for Eli.  His room was close enough that Samuel could hear the priest in case he needed him  As Samuel lay down to sleep, he suddenly heard his name being called.  He raced into Eli's chamber to see what he needed, only to find out that Eli had not called him at all.  Returning to his cot, Samuel once again, heard his name being spoken.  And, once again, he ran to Eli's room.  "No, my son, I did not call you," Eli said.  But, then, it happened a third time.  This time Eli realized it was the Lord who was calling Samuel.  Eli instructed Samuel to go lie down and then told him what to say if the Lord called his name again.
Samuel did as Eli says and lay down in his cot once more.  "Samuel, Samuel," he heard again.  This time Samuel responded to the Lord's calling by answering, "Speak, for thy servant heareth."
Oh, how I love this story.  I was drawn to it not long ago as I was praying for each of my grandchildren, that as they get older, they might hear the voice of the Lord and respond the same way Samuel did.
Then, of course, I thought about you and me.  Don't you love the way the Lord turns and asks us to examine our own hearts.  How many times the Lord calls to us,  yet we do not respond because we are too busy, or we have other sounds drowning out His voice, or we are afraid He may ask us to do something we do not want to do.
I have a challenge for you and for me...when you hear the voice of the Lord, whether in reading the Word, or in your prayer time, or just by the thoughts the Holy Spirit gives you, respond.  He may be speaking to you about correction, or maybe some instruction, or giving you some direction for your life.  It could be in the area of improving your time with the Lord, in praise or thanksgiving, in obedience, or just by being still like Samuel and hearing the sweet voice of the Lord.  Whatever the time, when He speaks, respond, "Speak, for thy servant heareth."
What an awesome privilege we have to hear His voice, the Creator of the Universe, who knows our name and takes the time to converse with us  May you be so blessed as you listen to His voice and then respond to what He asks of you.

The Lord...Our Portion

"Thou art my portion, O Lord, I have said that I would keep thy words."  P119:57
"My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever."  Ps. 73:26

How fun is it that we can meet like this, have a cup of coffee, and talk about the Lord!
There was an ancient custom among the Jews, of dividing the inheritance, whereby everyone received his allotted portion.  What comes to your mind when you think of the word "portion?"  It's a word that can mean a lot of different things depending on the context.  A "portion" can be an amount of something, a part of a whole, or, in some circumstances, it can be used to describe all that we need.
Now, what does the word"portion" mean to you spiritually?
I am learning that "portion"---in the spiritual sense---means all that I need and have in Jesus Christ.  He is my portion---the Supplier of every need.
John Mason in the Treasury of David helps to explain it this way:  "God is all sufficient; get him for your "portion,"  and you have it all; then you have infinite wisdom to direct you, infinite knowledge to teach you, infinite mercy to pity and save you, infinite love to care and comfort you and infinite power to protect and keep you."  God is your portion, all that you need.
You will find the Lord to be your portion when temptations come, when sickness occurs, when finances are stretched, and when faith is tested.  You need to remind yourself and say, "God is my portion."  He is all that I need.  His love will sustain; His grace will be sufficient; and His presence a comfort.  He is all that to you and me---we just need to claim it!
Realize the inheritance that has been allotted to you by Jesus Christ.  He is your portion, all that you need!

The Lord...Our Pastor

"The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want."  Ps. 23:1

Coffee time!  Sure, I would love a doughnut.
The Great Kind David grew up like all young boys of his time--following his older brothers around wherever they went.  He watched them intensely as they cared for their sheep, dreaming of the day he too would take on such an important role,  And, one day, the big moment finally arrived, as David's father entrusted him to lead the sheep to green pastures.  Oh, how he had waited for this day.  It meant he was no longer just a "boy", but would soon become a  "shepherd".
He knew the responsibility that had been given to him--to find grazing pastures, streams of water, and lead his sheep on the right path.  He was also aware of the ever-present danger of wild animals, which wanted nothing more than to attack his sheep.  Still, this was the moment he had longed for and he wasn't about to let his father--or his sheep--down.
As we think of David, sitting under a giant sprawling tree, looking up at the stars, we know God was watching over him as he cared for his sheep.  We find that wonderful truth in the 23rd Psalm.  And, just like the sheep under David's watchful eye, we are the sheep under the pastoral care of Jehovah.
What does that mean for us?  Our pastor/shepherd, the Lord, supplies all our needs.  He allows us to know His truth and rest in his promises.  He encourages us and give direction in our lives.  He promises to be with us, even if we walk through the valley of the shadow of death.  Oh, He anoints our head daily with oil of the Holy Spirit.  Do you realize that goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life because of your belief in the one true God?  What a comfort and assurance we are given in this psalm.
It had been such a blessing to me to talk with you about God and how He is our presider, provider, protector , prophet, priest, portion, and pastor.
Thank you for setting aside our time together.  I always look forward to writing to you and imagining our coffee time together.

The Lord...Our High Priest

"Seeing, then, that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  For we have not an high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.  Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."  Heb. 4:14-16

China cup day!  What a gift of love God gave to us in His Son, Jesus!
The long anticipated day had arrived - the Day of Atonement -- and, like any young Jewish girl of her day, Ruth had longed all year for this very moment ... "Oh, how I had looked forward to this day.  It was a glorious day, a day I had cherished in my heart.  I hurried toward the tabernacle with a throng of people, hoping beyond hope to see the high priest before he entered into the tabernacle.  I knew he would soon be entering the holy of holies to offer the yearly sacrifice for the sins of the people.  I thought if I could just see him enter the tent, if I could hear the bells jingle on the edge of his robe, it would be like I entered into the very presence of Jehovah God!  Oh, how I needed that cleansing of my heart.  My heart was already dancing for joy, knowing that God would hear my prayer of confession and accept the sacrifice of my heart. I was never as satisfied as I was on the Day of Atonement."
What a glorious truth for us today as believers, that Jesus Christ is our High Priest, that our Day of Atonement has already come to complete fruition.  Jesus was our sacrifice that we might have forgiveness of sin and enter with Him into the very presence of God Almighty.  As our High Priest, Jesus "ever liveth to make intercession" if we "come boldly before the throne of grace."  I love that we can come to Jesus about anything ... to tell Him how we feel, what we think, how we want to act, knowing He sympathizes with us, will encourage us, minister to us, and, most importantly, go the the Father on our behalf in prayer.  Don't you love that Jesus will give grace in time of need?
It is in our daily time of prayer that Jesus can offer our lives as a "living sacrifice" and that he truly gets to take on His role of High Priest.  It is there that He gives to the Father our praise and worship, our thanksgiving and love.  It is because of Jesus that we can enter into the very presence of our Heavenly Father and have fellowship with Him.  I am thankful we don't have to wait for just one day a year to offer our sacrifice or ask for forgiveness, but that we have that  privilege each day all day long.  Thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice on the cross for us.  May our lives be a sweet-smelling savor of sacrifice to our God.

The Lord...Our Prophet

"Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."  Matt. 11:28-30

Oh, thanks for setting out my cup and starting the coffee.  I never want to miss our visit.
Now, let's spend some time together!
Take another look at our verse quoted above.  I want to focus in on the phrase "learn of me."  Those words speak of Jesus being our prophet and teacher.  Those two roles that Jesus holds in our lives are so personal to each one of us and so absolutely necessary to our growth as Christians.
In the Old Testament, we learn that the prophet was given a message from God and it was his responsibility to take that message to the people and teach it to them.  Among other things, it was the prophet's job to teach the people to walk after God, keep the commandments, and cleave to the Lord.
What the prophet did in the Old Testament, Jesus does for us today.  He is the ultimate Prophet!  The Word made flesh.  And it is through the Word that he begins to teach us.  Isaiah 2:3b says "he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths."  Through scripture, Jesus teaches us by His example and we're able to learn through His timeless instruction.  He desires that we live our life in obedience and, in that, we find freedom and peace.
Jesus also teaches us by the mistakes we make.  He wants us to learn from them, take the necessary steps of correction, and apply those corrections to our lives.  I am so grateful for his forgiveness and his loving hand that leads me down the correct path.  I love that He is diligent, does not give up on us, and is creative in the lessons He uses to teach us.
Jesus also teaches us in our circumstances---He reaches out to us exactly where we are.  Sometimes I hesitate to ask this (and I'm not even sure I always want to know the answer), but I often find myself saying,"Lord, what is it that you want to teach me in this?"  As you and I are open to letting Him show us His ways, we will receive His teaching and gain more wisdom.
As I mentioned earlier, one of the most important ways Jesus can teach us is be being in His Word daily.  We have to make it a priority, ask for a teachable spirit, and then ask Jesus to show us what He desires to teach us that day.  It may be a thought, a correction in our life, a word of edification, comfort, or encouragement.  Just allow Jesus to be your teacher.  Oh, that we can learn of His ways!  Our life will be blessed and a blessing to others, refreshed, energized, and honoring to the Lord.
I love the fact that Jesus is our Prophet.  He is the greatest Teacher!

The Lord...Our Protector

"The LORD is my shepherd..." Ps. 23:1     "The LORD is thy keeper..." Ps. 121:5

I love having a cup of coffee with a friend, with whom I can talk, laugh, and encourage.  Thank you for making the time for us today.
He gently calls my name.  I know that voice.  I've heard it many times, when there was danger or I was wandering off too far, or the when the "enemy" was close by.  He says my name once again.  I recognize the voice, that of my Shepherd.  I know now I must stop what I am doing, listen, and follow his voice.
A shepherd cherishes the opportunity to care for his sheep.  When you stop and think about the character of sheep, they need a shepherd.  They have no sense of direction, no defense mechanisms, no sense of encroaching danger.  They're dependent on their shepherd to lead them to green pastures and provide them protection from their enemies.
We have that Shepherd, the LORD-raah, your caring shepherd.
I am learning many things about my Shepherd.  He knows me by name, is aware of what is going on in my life and all around me.  It is His duty to protect me, but my duty to respond.  It is in that protection that He leads, guides, and makes me aware of when I am making poor choices or trying to leave His protection.  It is also in that protection that I sense His strong presence and am able to find rest, peace, and a sense of security.
When I think of His protection words such as "shield," "tower," and "refuge" come to mind.  Each of these descriptions show our God protects us not only from physical harm or danger, but also protects our hearts and minds from sin, hurt, worry, distress, and attacks from the "enemy."
Through His rod and staff --- the Word --- He provides protection.  We must take the time to read and study the Bible daily, so that we can know what the Lord wants to teach us and learn how to apply those lessons to our lives.  He may have to use His rod to give correction when He sees that we are going our own way and not following His voice, but it's because He loves us and we belong to Him.
I love the verse in John 10:27,28 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.  And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand."  Oh, what wonderful assurance to know that we are under the protection of the Lord and are secure in His hand.
I have been blessed thinking on our third "P", Protector.  May this encourage and bless you as your recognize, realize, and love being under His protection.
"The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore."  Ps. 121:8

The Lord...Our Provider

"And Abraham called the name of this place Jehovah-ji reh."  Genesis 22:14A

What a sweet joy I receive when we have our cup of coffee together!  I have so looked forward to this visit and the chance to share my heart with you.
   Jehovah-ji reh
He walked on in silence, his thoughts filling his mind, yet he was afraid to speak --- fearful of what he was being required to do.  Oh, how Abraham longed to tell Isaac what was being required of him.  As they neared the place of sacrifice, Isaac asked, "Where is the lamb for the sacrifice?"  Abraham's only response was that God would provide.  God did provide.  Jehovah-ji reh --- the Lord will provide.
This is one of my favorite stories because of the way in which God provides for Abraham.  God does so in at least three ways:  temporally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Abraham was trusting God in sacrificing his son, Isaac.  I'm sure he did not understand God's request, but he was obedient to what God asked him to do.  When the time drew near, God provided what Abraham needed.  Temporally...He provided a ram.  God know what our needs are and He delights in meeting those needs.  I use the word "needs" not "wants."  Yes, He will also give us "wants" sometimes, but He has promised to supply our needs.  See Phil. 4:19.  He is Jehovah-ji reh!
God provides for us emotionally as well.  Just as Abraham's heart was wrenched, breaking, and hurting for his son, God knew Abraham's heart and when the test of obedience was complete, I know the Lord provided Abraham's heart with an abundance of love, trust, joy, and relief --- not only for his son, but also for the Lord.
I love that God knows the depth of our heart.  Our emotions and our feelings do not surprise Him because that is where He does wonderful work.  He steps right in and provides for us as we work through the "things" in our life.  Through His help we discover the "right"emotions ---emotions for healing, for trusting, for loving and for knowing Him more intimately.  He is Jehovah-ji reh!
I wonder if there was a time on the three-day journey when Abraham wanted to cry out to the Lord and ask Him if He was sure what He was doing?  "Lord, You gave me my son and now You are taking him from me?"  The story tells us how Abraham trusted in the Lord by doing what was asked of him.  He knew God's heart.
Once again, the Lord provided in the time of need.  It is the same for us.  Spiritually ...trust in our Father more, believe Him, know His Word to be true, know He is Faithful.  As we know these things about our Father, we will grow more secure in our Father's love and our relationship with Him will deepen and be more intimate.
Oh, how I hope and pray that you allow the Lord to meet your every need, whether temporal, emotional, or spiritual.  Remember that He is our Presider and now our second "P", our Provider.  He is Jehovah-ji reh!
Think back to the ways God has provided for you.  If you have not ever written any of them down, take a few minutes now and do it.  Now thank Him and praise Him for taking care of you.  Be more aware of God's presiding and now His provision in your life and in your family's.
This has been a special visit with you.

The Lord...Our Presider

"The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry."  Ps. 34:15
"The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom ruleth over all."  Ps. 103:19

Thank you for letting me come and visit.  I always look forward to our coffee time together.
"Little eyes are watching."  Those were some words my mother spoke to me many years ago to remind me how my daughters would watch and imitate me.  It was just a couple of weeks ago that "little eyes" were watching once again.  I had the three grandchildren at my house.  We had a spill on the carpet and I was in the process of cleaning it up.  I had the 2-month-old on my shoulder; the 20-month-old at an arm's distance and the 3-year-old was leaning over the arm of the couch.  As I was dapping the spots, Hannah says, " It's okay, Beege.  God is watching."  What a truth spoken!
Yes, He is watching and He is also presiding over us.  God is our Presider.  This is the first "P" mentioned at our last visit.
The word preside means one that holds a position of authority or possesses control.  Our Heavenly Father presides over us.  He is sovereign, rules over all, and He is the great I AM.  He also presides over you as a husband and as a father.  The verse in Isaiah 54:5 "For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts, is his name, and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; the God of the whole earth shall he be called."  As a husband, He gives and expresses His love, manifests His presence to you, and is in a covenant relationship with you.
You will find Him represented as a father in Gal. 4:6 "And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father."  The word Abba gives the picture of Father, our Father, a personal relationship.  As a father, He shows love to His children,  gives direction, instruction, correction, and discipline when needed.  He loves to sing over you and He delights in you!
What a glorious and encouraging truth how the Creator of heaven and earth watches and presides over you!
Begin your own list of how God presides over you.  Take notice each day how it is revealed to you and respond to Him more as your husband and father.  In acknowledging this truth, it will give a new comfort, peace, joy, and security in your life.  What a glorious truth!
Right now, thank Him for presiding over you.  It has allowed me to trust Him more, depend on Him in more areas of my life, and know that He has it all under control.  Oh, how I can rely on Him and love Him for being all that to me!
I wish our coffee time was longer, but I wanted to share just a few of the wonderful truths and way your Father presides over you.
I always look forward to our next time together.

Upward Look

"Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD..."  Ps. 25:15A

It's summer!  Let's linger over our cup of coffee today.  What fun!
A small boy nervously stands at the edge of a pool and peers into the water --- then he looks back to his mother for her reassuring smile.  She smiles at him.  The confidence swells within his heart as he bends his knees and catapults into the water.  Coming up with sheer delight, he quickly finds his mother, who winks at her little hero and claps proudly.
Oh, just as the child looks for courage, confidence, hope, and approval, so we as children must look to our Heavenly Father.  Ps. 25:15A says, "Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD."  We must fix our eyes on God as we trust in Him.  As our eyes are fixed, our hearts become confident and our expectations and hope become firmly planted in God.  Then, when circumstances or trials come, our eyes automatically look to Him, who has proved Himself faithful.  Our eyes look to the God of the universe!  I love that!
Fixing our eyes on Jesus is something we must work on daily because it is imperative to our lives as Christians.  Do you realize how much our eyes take in around us?  Our eyes reveal so much to our heart --- so if we maintain our eyes on the Lord, we grow in a deeper relationship with Him, resulting in such sweet fellowship.  Through this gaze, we can experience the confident look of trust, the tender look of love, and the amazing look of wonder.
In the last several years, I have found seven specific way I can "look" to the Lord.  I look to Him as my Presider, Protector,  Provider, Pastor, Priest, Prophet, and Portion.  Oh, He is all these to you, too!  Maintain your eyes toward the Lord, thank Him for being all that you need, and you will experience such a comfort unlike anything else.
He loves you so much and is so proud of you!

Morning Smile

"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth his handiwork."  Ps. 19:1

Let's sit outside for our coffee cup visit today.
It is early dawn and, each day, there they sit.  Nine are facing east, one facing west.  Watching and waiting.  Here it comes!  Get ready!  Their heads are tilted back, their chests are barreled out, and their feathers are fluffed, as the glory and the warmth of the sun appears above the treetops.  Oh, my, do they shake and shiver.  After a few minutes of enjoying the spectacular showing, they fly off---promising to meet again at dawn the next day.
I've seen this gathering of birds at the same intersection many mornings.  In fact, I look for them.  Kinda goofy, but I have this GA (Ginny Assumption) about them.  I think they're watching for the sun - patiently waiting for it to appear up over the nearby rooftops.
Now if they really are watching for the sun, just imagine for a moment, what a wonderful way to begin the day!  Ps. 19:4,5 says "...the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, (rejoices) like a strong man running a race."
Oh, that we might anticipate the morning this way.  I love the idea "of a bridegroom coming out of his chamber."  We have all been there...a wedding where the bridegroom's face is so full of joy that those watching find it contagious.
I must confess that I often look forward to the evening when the day is done and I can just sit at home and rest.  Now, though, I am asking the Lord to encourage me to welcome the morning with greater anticipation.  Not that I am going to rise every morning and watch the sun come up.  I'm not.  But, I do desire to begin every single morning rejoicing in the Lord and being grateful for all that He will do for me in the coming day.
How do you anticipate the morning?  A little dread ... a long list of to do's?  Or, do you face the world with a spirit of joy, with the realization of the Lord's company and his goodness?
Let's let our voices of praise be heard with the singing of the birds as we welcome the morning.  What glorious things He has in store for us each day.
Who knows, next time you are out one early morning, you might just see your own row of birds ... patiently waiting for the sun to make its glorious appearance so that they can give honor and praise to their creator.

Blessings of the Lord

"The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it."  Proverbs 10:22

You are such a blessing to me!  I love our coffee time together.
It all started with the orange tree.  I saw it several weeks ago while driving to work.  Oranges, oranges, and more oranges, the tree was laden with them.  It was in the middle of December and I was amazed.  I did not realize I lived in a climate or season that would grow oranges in the winter.  I found myself looking for the orange tree every day.
Oh, how I wanted to try one of the oranges to see if it was sweet or just an average orange.
I would think, okay, park at the end of the street, walk along the road easement, and pick up one of the oranges.  Option #2, I would count which house it was on the street, go up to the door, and ask if I could have one of their oranges.  Option #3, just forget about tasting, just enjoy seeing the oranges.  Crazy, I know, but that is just how my mind works sometime.  You are getting to know the real me.
Then one day while driving by the orange tree, the Lord sweetly spoke a spiritual truth to me.  Why don't you let the orange tree--with all its wonderful oranges-represent MY blessings and promises to you.  I have so many for you, yet day after day you look, they fall to the ground because you do not take them or gather them for yourself to give to others.  My promises and blessings are yours for the asking, believing, and receiving.
Oh, that is so true.  I confess I don't claim His promises as I should and I let blessing after blessing fall to the ground without acknowledging and thanking Him for them.  What a sweet way the Father reminds His children.
My encouragement to you and reminder to myself is to be keenly aware of all the blessings of the Lord.  Take minute and remember some from just this past week.
His promises are our because of our relationship with Jesus Christ.  He wants us to stand upon His promises by faith knowing He will never recall His promises, "God is not man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent.  Hath he said, and shall he not do it?  Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"  Numbers 23:19
Now when I pass the orange tree, to enjoy it would take action on my part...take action on God's promises and blessings.  Who knows, I may just stop and get an orange soon.

Getting out of the Pit

"He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings."  Ps. 40:2

I know you are  busy, but let's plug in the coffee.  I won't stay too long ... promise.
One of my all-time favorite movies is The Princess Bride.  In one part of the movie, Wesley---Princess Buttercup's one-true love-finds himself thrown into the "pit of despair."  He is tortured and beaten in the pit and his spirit is all but broken.  At one point, it looks as if Wesley will be stuck in the pit of despair for the rest of his life.  But, at the last moment, Wesley finally finds a way of escape and is eventually rewarded with his beautiful bride!
A couple of months ago, I too, found that I had fallen into a pit of despair and rejection.  For the first time in my life, a fellow co-worker didn't like me.  And she wasn't shy about showing it!  I let her rejection fester in my life until I found myself falling further and further into the pit.
I don't know about you, but "pits" don't conjure up pretty visuals for me.  I see depression, selfishness, jealousy, and discontent, just to name a few.  And one of the worst things about "being in the pit" is that we often find ourselves lingering there for long periods of time.  Pits, unfortunately, can become like quick sand---as they pull us further and further under, all the while suffocation us emotionally.
But praise God, for He is our way of escape!  As the Psalm says, He can bring u sout of a horrible pit.  It's up to us to respond to his leading.
I often refer to this time in my life---when I need to respond to God---as "the classroom."  I am the pupil and He is the teacher... and, sometimes, I don't always respond to God's lessons the way I should!  So, like any great teacher, He has to repeat the same lesson again and again until I finally understand what He's trying to teach me.  It's at those times I have to remember 1st Thessalonians 5:18:  "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."  So, even if you're heart isn't rejoicing, just remember to be obedient in giving thanks.  The heart's rejoicing will come later.
Once my heart is back in line with God, I have to focus on my thoughts.  One of the biggest struggles I face when I find myself falling into a pit is that I tend to allow my thoughts to run out of control.  I can play out entire "what if" scenarios in my mind in under five seconds.  To help curb that process, I recall Phil. 4:8, which states "Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."  This verse helps get my thoughts back in line and my perspective back on God.  Finally, I begin to pray for the situation---both for my attitude and my response.  God is so loving in showing me that it's been His chisel the whole time, chipping away at my life to fashion me more like His Son and bring me out of the pit.  Oh, how I welcome that!
We all have times where we find ourselves in a pit, but thank the LORD He does not leave us there!  He sets "our feet upon a rock."  That rock is Jesus.  As Deut. 32:4 says, "He is the Rock, his work is perfect; for all his ways are justice and right is He."
And fortunately, like Wesley, we have a prize waiting for us on the other side of the pit---a renewed, reinvigorated relationship with the Lord.  God brought me out of my pit---my relationship with my co-worker has drastically improved, thanks to a lot of prayer and the help of some insight from the Lord---and I know that He wants to deliver you out of yours as well.
Oh, we have a mighty God and He loves you with an everlasting love!  Let Him love on you today.
Can't wait for our next time together.  Thank you for letting me come to visit.

His Comforts

"In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul."  Ps. 94:19

Today as we visit, sit in your most comfortable spot and use your favorite mug or cup.  It's our coffee time.
I want you to think of one or two examples that you consider being "comfort things".  By "comfort things" I mean those things you cling to when you are pressed, stressed, lonely, or just out-of-sorts.  We all have those "comfort" props; that fleeting fix that helps us forget the moment.  The favorite food, the robe, a hobby, spending money, or even a luxurious "Calgon take-me-away" bubble bath.
My favorite comforts are twofold:  a mid-afternoon nap and my favorite fast food meal.  I can think back to the many times I have moved my daughters, only to find myself missing them the moment I pull away ... Whataburger, here I come--the #8 on my mind!  It was a fleeting fix that would satisfy me for the moment, getting my mind temporarily off of the pain I was feeling.
Ps. 94:19 refers to the "multitude of thoughts within me."  Those thoughts can result in feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and even fearful.  When our thoughts overwhelm us, it is at that time we can find true rest and comfort in the words "thy comforts delight my soul."   The comforts of God can become the sanctuary for our minds and hearts; it is His divine comforts that give delight and satisfaction.  His comforts are a continual satisfaction to us and not a mere fleeting fix.
Let's take a moment and acknowledge some of God's comforts that delight and satisfy our heart and mind  I'll give you a few of mine---His unfailing love, the forgiveness of sin, eternal life, His faithfulness, mercy, kindness and the fact that He delights in us and sings over us.  You know I could go on and on and you could too.  Take a second and name your comforts of God and find your self being comforted and delighted by the Father.  What sweet peace and rest we find in Him.
It's okay to enjoy your "comfort" thing, but I would challenge you to go one step further.  Allow God and His Word to bring genuine comfort to your heart.  It truly is the only thing that will bring lasting satisfaction.
I will still at times order my #8, which is the two chicken strips, fries, Texas toast with gravy, and a Dr. Pepper, but more that that...I will name back to God all the ways He delights and comforts my heart through His Word.  His promises are guaranteed to satisfy.  I look forward to our next time together!

The Kiss

"...But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him."  Luke 15:20

I smell the coffee...you must have know I was coming.  How fun!
I recently gave my granddaughter a book entitled Won't You Be My Kiss-a-roo?  Throughout this wonderful book, various animals are portrayed in a mother-child relationship giving each other special kisses.  Oh, there is the morning kiss, the goodnight kiss, and the healing kiss of a hurt, the surprise kiss, even the sticky kiss of a butter/honey sandwich.  I love reading the book to Hannah and giving her the kisses as we read each page.  We have a sweet time together.
There is another story of a kiss I find most precious.  It is one of my favorites and is found in Luke 15:11-24 where Jesus is telling a parable of the prodigal son.  I know you are familiar with it.  Would you let me tell my version of the story?
The young man has had a glimpse of the world and begins to imagine all that he could do if he was just able to leave home and seek all that he believes to be good and satisfying.  Day in and day out he dreams of leaving his father - and the daily grind of farming and ranching - and venturing off to the far country.  Finally, one day, he gains the courage to ask his father for his inheritance early and his father begrudgingly grants his son's request.  The son heads out the next day for the far country to seek the pleasures he has dreamed about for so long.
Well, you all know what happens.  The son spends all his money in "riotous living", loses the "friends" he had acquired, and finds himself feeding pigs.  Not only does he feed the pigs; he eats the dinner served the pigs!  What a change from the lifestyle he knew at his father's house.
After some time the son realizes that even the servants at his father's house have a place to sleep and food to eat.  Why, surely he could also be a servant at his father's house.  So, he decides to travel home.  As he begins the journey, the realization of all his wrongdoings begins to sink in - how he must have grieved his father, how much pain he has caused to his family.  He knows he must ask for his father's forgiveness.    Meanwhile, day after day, the father sits on the front porch in his rocker, watching for any sign of his son.  He finds himself looking hard and long down the dusty road, yearning to catch a glimpse of the son he lost so long ago.  Then, one day ... could it be?  Could this man be my son returning home?  As his heart begins to race in his chest, the father jumps off the porch, runs down the long dusty road, his eyes transfixed on one sight -- his long lost son.  Before the son can even open his mouth to confess all that he has done wrong and ask for forgiveness, his father has embraced him and given him a kiss -- a kiss of forgiveness and restoration, a kiss of love, a kiss of welcoming home.  I love that!  What a glorious picture of our Heavenly Father!
Oh, the kisses our Father gives to each one of us.  The kiss of His love through Jesus.  An early morning kiss of a most beautiful sunrise.  The sweet kiss of family.  The kiss that heals a hurting heart.  The kiss of encouragement.  Try not to overlook the many kisses we receive from our loving Father.  Notice them.  Cherish them.  You will find them in the reading of the Word, in creation, in your prayer time or with a loved one or friend.
He is longing to give you His kiss today.  Receive it and thank Him for it.  A sweet kiss you will not forget.  Oh, the love the Father has for you!  We have a most wonderful Heavenly Father  I love sharing my thoughts and spending time with you.
Always keep some coffee on the shelf.  I'll be back soon for another short visit.

Sweet Fragrance

"God leads us from place to place in one perpetual victory parade.  Through us, he brings knowledge of Christ.  Everywhere we go, people breathe in exquisite fragrance.  Because of Christ, we give off a sweet scent rising to God..." 2 Cor. 2:14&15 (The MSG.)

You are so special in God's  eyes... it's a  "china cup" coffee time today!
  Red bike story #2.
When I ride, I often find myself on one particular trail that winds through a wooded area.  I love this area.  The trees and vines intertwine to form a green canopy overhead and the walls ... they're made of the sweetest scented honeysuckle you've ever smelled.  Upon entering, I slow down, look about, and take deep breaths of the fragrance of the blossoms.  As I leave and ride out to the open, the fragrance lingers with me as a reminder of that special place.
So it is with our lives.  As a believer, God's Word tells us that our lives produce an exquisite fragrance so that wherever we go, it causes others to know of our love for the Lord.  The fragrance of Jesus should make your life different than that of the worlds.
I heard of a wonderful custom the women of Sudan perform before their wedding day.  It speaks of fragrance.
The custom begins with a pit being dug; inside the pit is placed charcoal and sandalwood incense.  A mat is positioned by the pit, and for forty days before the wedding ceremony, the bride-to-be sits on the mat each day and covers herself with a blanket, allowing the smoke and fragrance to penetrate her entire body.
Anyone who would meet this woman in the marketplace would know where she had been and what special event was upcoming in her life.  Why?  Because she had immersed herself in that distinctive fragrance.
Oh, that we might so immerse ourselves in the presence of the Lord that when we meet and talk with people in the marketplace, we can't help but give off the aroma of Jesus Christ.
What a wonderful truth ... our lives are a sweet-smelling savor to God!
Love the time you spend with the Lord.  Allow His Word to penetrate every part of your being and know that you are an exquisite fragrance for Him.
I told you it was a "china cup" day!  Thank you for letting me spend some time with you.

You Are the Apple of His Eye

"Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon those who fear him, upon those who hope in his mercy."  Ps. 33:18

Got your cup of coffee ready?  Let's visit a minute.  I just love our time together!
Since moving to Katy, I have become the proud owner of a red bicycle and, boy, do I love it!  It has given me the opportunity to ride the bike trails in my neighborhood, check out the area, look at different landscaping, homes, and even get some good exercise.  All this riding also allows me to have time with the Lord whether it's talking, praying, or simply listening.
The nature trails that I ride wind in and out of the woods, allowing me to scan the area for different animals and foliage.  I've seen three turtles sunbathing on a partially submerged log; a white crane soaking his feet in the water, eyeballing me as I get closer and closer just so he can fly off.  There's even a sign posted near the bayou that says "watch out for alligators," but I haven't spotted one yet.
While riding the other day, I saw a woodpecker on the side of the tree, busy doing his thing.  I slowed my bike down and approached him---I thought very quietly---only to have him quickly fly away.  I followed him as he flew high into the sky, while continuing to ride my bike across a bridge.  Realizing I needed to check where my front wheel was so I didn't have a wreck, I lost sight of the woodpecker.  Quickly looking back, I saw the bird in my vision and watched him continue to soar.
Suddenly, a thought came to my mind:  sometimes we can get so caught up in what is happening in our lives and on our surroundings that we simply lose sight of the Lord.  Thankfully, the glorious truth is, He does not lose sight of us!  His eye is ever upon us!  Ps. 33:18 says, "Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon those who fear him, upon those who hope in his mercy."
Ps. 32:8 says, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye."
Those two verses are an encouragement to us to realize and know God always has His eye on us.  No matter what, His eye never leaves us.
Ps. 32:8 is one of my favorite verses.  It has been such an encouragement to me so many times.  There are three verbs to notice:  instruct, teach and guide.
As we fear God and hope in His mercy, He will perform those three verbs in Ps. 32:8.
God is involved in our lives and wants us to have a willingness to allow Him to instruct, teach and guide us.  Oh, for the personal instruction from your Heavenly Father, that He may teach and guide you.
Thank the Father for His eye of infinite tenderness and compassion upon you.  He loves you so much!  Keep your eye upon Him!
Keep me on your calendar for us to have coffee and visit again soon.
